“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written.”
– Melody Beattie
Do You Want to Accelerate Your Results? and set Up Your Environment for Success?
Most people start to give up on their recently created resolutions by end of January. let’s explore how you can avoid being one of them and learn the valuable skills needed to realise these goals. Through this post, we will focus on simple, practical ways to create new habits and environments to produce the greatest impact on your lifestyle for the year to come.
8 Ways To Prepare for Success this Year
1. Set Clear Goals
Setting clear goals helps create a sense of purpose and direction. Make sure the goals are realistic and achievable so that you can reach them and have a sense of accomplishment.
In our course ‘Setting Goals That Actually Work’ – you’ll learn why the process of setting your goals is just as important as choosing targets that truly matter.
“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.“
– Helen Keller
You’ll also learn how to set goals that accurately reflect your purpose and find tools you can use to track your progress. In the end, you’ll walk away with a stronger sense of alignment between your vision and the daily habits that will help you conquer your goals in the long run.
2. Don’t Limit Your Vision
All of us are unique, and our individual strengths should be embraced and used to our advantage. However, it can be useful to learn from role models and mentors’ triumphs as models for achieving your own goals.
Create your own frameworks to bring your vision to life, don’t restrict your dreams to fit into “reasonable” ideas, and create an environment that allows you to actualise your vision.
3. Prioritise High-Value Activities
Spend some time writing down what’s important to you. Don’t be tempted to rush this, consider it deeply and thoughtfully. Once you have a comprehensive list, refine the list to three non-negotiable activities – things you value the most.
Then time-box these activities (be specific), to assess exactly how much time you actually dedicate to the things that are important to you. You may find it difficult to account for all of your time at first and be surprised by what you are prioritising.
After the first part of the exercise, begin to establish which low-value activities take up too much of your schedule, and actively re-purpose your time to what you value most. Refining this skill will transform the year ahead.
4. Surround Yourself with Positive People
Surrounding yourself with motivated and supportive people can help keep you realise your goals and dreams quicker, whilst staying on track through challenges.
Studies indicate that we reflect the behaviours of the people around us. That means it’s crucial that “your” people are supportive, inspiring, and most importantly aren’t destructive, or have the tendency to sabotage you. You are the average of the five people you associate with most, so don’t underestimate the influence and impact of your friends and your own Self-talk.
“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written.”
– Melody Beattie
5. Keep Learning
A common trait of those who are at the top of their game in life is that they are constantly working to improve – to understand and achieve. They like to transcend their own personal limitations and their hunger for improvement encourages them to always seek out those who know more than them.
“Quite simply learning is the single best investment of our time that we can make.” Opportunity windows are temporary. The ability to learn and develop new skills quickly is becoming a commodity in and of itself. The world’s busiest, most successful people all make time to learn. So can you! Make time – Be consistent – Recognise value!
6. Eliminate Extra Decisions, and Learn to Say No
“The only person who can truly take of you is you.”
– Oprah Winfrey
7. Be Brave and Curious
Personal and professional growth occurs when we are being stretched slightly beyond our current level of ability. Creativity takes place when skills and challenges meet. The environment for success is a place of courage and bravery. And we all have more of those characteristics than we realize. Courage is being the only one who knows you’re afraid.
Asking questions is a powerful route to positive change. Learn with an open mind how others have achieved success. What was their attitude, mindset or inspiration? Being curious will keep your mind receptive to new ideas, and new ways of thinking, ready for achieving your goals for the year ahead.
8. Reward Yourself
Celebrate your successes and reward yourself for achieving your goals. Celebrating small successes is an important part of maintaining motivation and morale to achieve your major goals.
This could be anything from taking a day off to go to the beach or doing something fun. It could also be something as simple as taking a bubble bath or reading a book. Celebrating successes encourages motivation and helps to keep you on track with your goals.
